Of important note here is ISO 14001's strict emphasis on the fulfilment of compliance obligations. If your organization is not already in compliance with applicable environmental regulations and requirements, certification is unlikely to be awarded until these issues are resolved.
Most organizations will require between 6 to 12 months for the development and implementation of an effective system; however, some organizations may take longer, some may take less. This is a general guideline however, as it is really up to the organization, and their level of commitment to becoming ISO 14001 compliant.
